We all make New Year's resolutions, all of which are usually quite admirable and ambitious. We've all tried desperately to stick to them, however the problem is not everyone can maintain them. Here are our 5 top tips for keeping your New Year's resolution in 2018:
1. Write them down
Our first tip is super easy and obvious - write all of your resolutions down. Whether it's on a note pad, diary or a scrap piece of paper, writing your resolutions down allows you to look at them whenever you want and helps with remembering them all. I have set aside a Sarah Haran notebook this year just to write down my resolutions!
2. Plan ahead
Don’t make your resolution on New Year’s Eve. If you wait until the last minute, it will be based on your mindset that particular day. Instead, plan it in advance in as much detail as possible. I have been thinking about them for a couple of weeks now, just so I don't rush in.
3. Keep your resolutions specific
When you set your resolution in broad terms such as, "I'm going to read more books in 2018", you are setting yourself up for failure. Instead be specific, "I'm going to read at least one book per month". By making your resolutions very specific, you are giving yourself realistic goals and setting yourself up for success.
4. Closely measure your progress
If you’ve created specific goals, then getting positive reinforcement should be easy. Every time you reach one of those goals—even if it’s just a daily goal—mark it off on a checklist or calendar.
5. Celebrate at the end
When you've finally reached your goal, have a celebration - no matter how big or small the achievement. You did it, and you should be proud of yourself and your accomplishments. Treat yourself to something nice or something you want to indulge in. If you're working with a friend, arrange to give each other gifts when you reach your goals. Whatever you do, make sure it's something special!
