LFW by Sophie Milner

LFW may be over but it’s left us more inspired than ever to up our personal style game. Out of the four fashion capitals, London is known for its playful, energetic, eclectic style, as well as being a breeding ground for the most exciting new designers. So quite naturally, this season did not disappoint.

I head down to check out some shows and catch up with the latest trends - on and off the runway - and took with me the amped-up Aster bag in its new spring hue. Cue a juicy pink shade and a luxe pompom in place of the tassel. Taking a totally tonal approach to style, I teamed this bright bubblegum bag alongside a dusky pink teddy coat and playful slogan tee to encapsulate what London style is all about: fun.

To summarise the need-to-know on AW17 trends so that you can get ahead of the curve, I’ve got this little cheat sheet.

  • Velvet – “again?!” I hear you cry. Yes, again! But this time it’s in shockingly electric hues or covered with florals. Or, even better, both.
  • Slogan T-shirts - it’s all about saying what you mean in style.
  • Winter block brights – Roksanda set the colour wheel spinning with a collection punctuated in every shade on the spectrum, proving colour-pop accessories like this electric tote aren’t just for spring/summer! Key shades to take note of are scarlet and oxblood.
  • Duvet Days – if I never needed a reason to leave my bed, I’d quite comfortably stay in the safety and warmth of it forever. But interestingly, fashion is giving us the rare opportunity to take it with us wherever we go. Duvet-like coats swamped the runway in gigantic proportions. Consider it the amped-up, glamorous, and ever so comfortable update on the puffer jacket trend!

And when it comes to accessories, everyone in the street style set – myself included – were spotted toting their bags in the oh-so-fashionable way of under the arm. Yes, whether you decide to let your handbag handles fall loosely, or slip them into the bag itself to give your accessory more of a clutch effect, the look du jour was a hands-on approach, tucked under your shoulder and supported with a perfectly manicured hand.

Until next time LFW.
